Frequently Asked Questions

The following questions are frequently asked about our engine restoration services.

1. How long does it take to overhaul an engine?

The Merlin: 3 to 4 months.
The Allison: 2 to 3 months.
The Griffon: 6 to 9 months.
The DB601, 605, and Bristol Centaurus depends on core condition.

2. How many hours can I put on my engine before it needs an overhaul?

We like to see the engines back after 500 to 600 hours. We have seen engines with 800 to 900 hours, but the longer it goes, the more parts it needs at overhaul (such as crank, rods, valves, heads, etc.).

3. What color do you paint the engines?

We can paint the engine any color you like. The most common choices are red, gray, and black.

4. Do you test run the engines with a propeller installed?

Yes, and the engines are test run for a period of 5 hours through different power settings including take-off power at 3,000 rpm and 61 inches of boost.
